Current MJO forecast

The Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is a tropical weather system that lasts about 1 to 2 months. It is one of the few aspects of the weather that can be skilfully predicted beyond about 2 weeks into the future. The maps below show the operational experimental forecast of the MJO made at UEA. These OLR anomaly maps show the current state of the MJO (T+0 days) and forecasts at lead times of T+5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 days. The blue colours show where we expect conditions to be wetter than usual, and the red colours drier than usual.
